Big feelings

Using a story to help with a big change: new siblings, new schools, new homes

Big changes are hard to talk about head-on, especially for little ones who do not yet have the words. A story can do the talking for you.

Stories give feelings a safe distance

When a brave character in a tale faces a new baby brother, or a first day at a new school, a child can explore those feelings without being put on the spot. It is theirs to think about, quietly.

It rehearses what is coming

Hearing how a character copes with a change, and comes out the other side happily, helps a child picture themselves doing the same. A gentle story can take a lot of the fear out of the unknown.

Keep it warm, and keep them the hero

The goal is reassurance, not a lecture. A story where your child handles the change with a little help and a happy ending does more good than any pep talk.

When you sign up you can tell us about a big moment to gently support, a new sibling, a house move, settling into school, and we will weave it kindly into their stories.

Give them a story that’s all their own.
